Design Process
Concept
The project repositions the mountain hut as both a shelter and a research outpost, enhancing the site’s narrative by carefully engaging with its historical and environmental context.

History
Located on the remains of the Japanese colonial-era Songyuan Police Station, the site carries a strong historical presence. Its soft pine-needle terrain and layered past distinguish it from the other locations, requiring a sensitive architectural response.

Spatial Strategy
Variations in visual height, distance, and spatial dispersion are used to create multiple modes of interaction with the ruins, allowing new spatial experiences while respecting the historical remains.

Structural Design

Concept
Adapt a lightweight and sustainable structure to steep alpine slopes while minimizing material use and environmental impact.

System
Lightweight steel framing with adjustable foundations integrates with gabion stone footings, reducing component count and enabling modular assembly.

Performance
Ensures structural stability on steep terrain, simplifies construction, and maintains a low environmental footprint.
